EDIT: Searched the forum, supposedly there is a TSB. Hopefully it’ll get fixed. Too bad I can’t get anywhere with my speaker noise issue...

For third time I’ve gotten a CEL indicating ‘random misfire on startup’. The first time was at a dealer after getting some services, they reset the code and sent me on my way. Second time was at another dealer after an oil change. That time I ignored it, reset the code, went on my merry way. Now 500 miles later I noticed it idling a little rough and then the light came on.

Kinja'd!!!

rche

Of course it would happen today when all the service departments are closed. Guess I’ll leave the code until Tuesday and hope nothing else goes wrong...

Needless to say I’m not all that happy about it. Guess I have an excuse to go test drive some Camaros now

Fix Or Repair Daily

All joking aside, What’s the actual code it’s throwing? Could be a loose connector at the MAF, CPS, etc.

Unacceptable in my mind, but hopefully you won’t end up as bad as they guy on here with the cursed C250 (or was it a C300?)

At least this should get fixed. I hear a high pitched noise from my speakers that two dealers have failed to diagnose, let alone attempt to fix

Hmm. The problem with new cars is that your standards skyrocket, and you develop superhuman hearing. My Tacoma makes all kinds of little noises and they screech at me, mockingly. Meanwhile any noises made by the Celica remain dismissed entirely.

You’re not wrong. It’s still annoying, and for a new car it’s ridiculous I can’t get it fixed.

There’s a pretty good chance my first Ford will be my last

Firewrx (or something like that). C250. Pretty sure I know what’s wrong with it but his dealer is stupid. Not exactly one of MB’s better engines either...

It seems many new cars are like this. It’s sad because it sours a person’s thoughts towards a brand as a whole.

The Explorer I had liked to eat sensors. It decided after the cam shaft position sensor, and the throttle position sensor, the crankshaft position sensor was up next. It was February of 2014 and I was in Alice Texas, 5 months into my new job. It would do this thing where it’d take a couple of times to start, then one day it just decided that it didn’t want to start, so it got towed to Ford. I didn’t know any other place to take it and I was making good money, plus free rent. They had it for a week while I was in the field and they were finally able to figure out what the culprit was, and got the part ordered and fixed. I had it back for 2 days, and on my way back from Corpus Christi, the check engine light comes on and starts flashing at me. Fuck. I was like, I’m going back to Georgia in a month, I’ll just drive it around until then and fix it myself. I was really getting tired of the damn thing, I had it for 8 years at this point and it was pretty unreliable, so if it died, I was just going to ahead and get the M3 before I really wanted to. In a Ford, if your check engine light flashes at you it means something that could harm the catalytic converter is happening. Well I drove it like that for a month and 2000 miles, including 1050 in 17 hours in one day. When I get home, I check the ODB 2 reader, cylinder 1 misfire. Pop the hood, and my dad is like you see something wrong? I was like uh no. The spark plug wire that goes from the coil or whatever it’s called was disconnected. I guess when it was at Ford they disconnected it for diagnostics and didn’t completely reconnect it. Reconnected it, reset the code and never had a problem again. I felt like a dumb ass, but hey at least it was a simple fix. I guess my Explorer wanted to do it’s best Mercedes 300D impression.

It’s scrap shoot either way. Some people have good Ford experiences while some have good GM experiences and some(quiet a bit rarer) have good Chrysler experiences. It’s all luck of the draw.regardless, to each their own. It also helps if you love a brand, then you can ignore annoyances as long as they are cheap/free to fix.

I got it at 130k with problems. I’ve fixed what’s broken, the platform is just flawed. So is every S550 that I’ve ever driven.

05/28/2016 at 19:17

Kinja'd!!!0

What broke, just in case I come across them as well in mine. because I’ve have had a 2008 and now a 2011 with 70k+ miles on both with no issues.

Kinja'd!!! Jake - Has Bad Luck So You Don't Have To > Cherry_man1
05/28/2016 at 19:44

Kinja'd!!!1

You misunderstand me. It’s not stuff breaking per se, it’s just Ford’s completely garbage QA and build quality. Aluminum hood paint flaking off? You bet your ass. Stupid plastic door handle crap breaking? Oh, of course. Door handle pushrods requiring adjustment and/or glue? yep. The stupid exhaust rattle at 1600rpm that is a KNOWN ISSUE with no known solution (V6 only, I believe), the little handles on the back of the seats for getting out of the rear seat that always fall off (fixed with copious use of glue, still dumb as shit to not secure those with a screw somehow), the dust boot/cover thing of the automatic shifter that is broken on every single Mustang to ever exist ever, etc. etc. etc.

And the S550 has panel fitment that is rivaled by the likes of the Chevrolet Sonic, Spark, hell even my thrice-wrecked Miata has better panel fitment than an S550.

Don’t get me wrong, the Mustang is a good car, but not a great car, and certainly not a well-built car.

I have never seen those issues in the 2 I’ve owned maybe I’ve been lucky but I just don’t see those issues manifesting on my car at all. I’ve had my 2008 V6 from 8900 to 75k miles and my 2011 GT for the last 55k miles on it. All cars have issues like this as well you can’t just single one thing out. It’s like saying the E46 M3 is bad because SMG, VANOS, and other little problems it has. All cars have it.

Fucking this. Every single S550 I see at my dealership has completely garbage panel fitment. I recently had a triple yellow convertible. GT, Performance Pack, 6 speed, etc. You name it. It was like a $48k Mustang, and the fitment was so bad that I literally thought it was involved in an accident.

Yep. Panel fitment on them is atrocious. What’s funny about S197s is that people call mine a piece of shit but it is in FAR better condition than 90% of S197s I’ve seen.

My wife drives a 2002 Thunderbird(I know, you are supposed to hate them), from almost new (when purchased it had 1500 miles on it). Shortly after purchasing, it started up with high pitch speaker noise, when eventually became the sound of a UFO landing in the trunk. Eventually, they ended up replacing the head unit, amp, sub, rear speakers, and the entire stereo wiring harness before it was solved.
